5 Simple Tips to Enjoy Using Windows More

According to Statista, almost 74% of all desktop computers use Windows. While Microsoft’s operating system is great, there are ways users can make it even better.

Would you like to learn how to improve your experience of using Windows? Whether it’s navigating via files or folders or using the internet, these tips will ensure you enjoy this OS more than ever before!

#1. Choose Convenient Times to Install Updates

You need to have the latest Windows patches for security reasons. But the system is famous for daily updates that could lag your computer for hours. Fortunately, Windows allows scheduling updates to your preference.

It’s possible to choose “Active hours” in the Settings. Those are times when Windows won’t install any new patches to ensure your PC runs smoothly.

If you haven’t updated the system in a while, it’s best to do that overnight. Leave the computer on and the internet connection active. Once you wake up, everything will be good to go.

#2. Take Advantage of Virtual Desktops

Virtual desktops are essentially different desktops on the same machine. They are convenient if you are working on several projects simultaneously. Instead of losing your way among dozens of open pages and programs, simplify things by creating a virtual desktop.

The feature is useful if you use the same computer for work and personal needs. Once working hours finish, you can switch to the next desktop and play your favorite games. Microsoft added this feature in Windows 10, so you need to have at least this version to use this option.

#3. Customize the Start Menu to Your Needs

It might surprise you how many people don’t bother customizing the Start menu. And its entire idea is to streamline device use and find the desired app efficiently.

Here are some tips to help adjust the Start menu:
  • Pin the desired app tiles to access them quickly.
  • Increase the tile’s size to make it more noticeable.
  • Deactivate live tiles if you find them too distracting.
  • Rearrange the menu’s size on newer Windows versions.
Another neat trick is to pin the most frequently used apps to the taskbar.

#4. Use a VPN

Virtual private networks are an integral component of maintaining maximum privacy when browsing the web. VPNs protect browsing activity info and ensure they don’t fall into the wrong hands.

If you connect to a public Wi-Fi, you are at risk of network admins tracking your online activity.

VPNs are strongly recommended even if you use your home internet network. They ensure ISPs don’t get your browsing data and limit your bandwidth if they see you are using too much traffic.

Search engines and other parties might collect your web activity info to personalize advertisements you see while browsing.

A simple VPN download will ensure that doesn’t happen and your privacy stays intact.

#5. Activate Dark Mode in Low-Light Environments

Do you sometimes find yourself stuck with a difficult project that requires you to work at night? Eyestrain is a huge problem when using a tech gadget for a long time. Microsoft added the Dark Mode feature in Windows 10 to help mitigate this issue.

Dark Mode is far more than an aesthetic addition. It’s the recommended option in low-light environments.

If you use the computer at night or turn off the room lighting for any reason, it’s advisable to switch to dark mode. It will emit less blue light and help reduce eyestrain.

Final Thoughts

Don’t hesitate to spend some time customizing your Windows and exploring available options.

Head to the Settings menu, adjust start-up programs, and set everything to your preference. Even a tiny change could go a long way and save you much time and hustle when using this operating system!
